In the process of adapting their mobile network capabilities to the exponentially-increasing capacity and service-type diversity, mobilenetwork operators are continuously upgrading their Radio Access Network (RAN) and core network infrastructure. The evolution of thecurrent distributed 2G / 3G /4G RAN architectures to the denser and Centralized (C-RAN) 4G+ / 5G architectures, will dramatically increase thebackhaul and fronthaul link capacity and density.
Wireless technologies, which offer unique deployment flexibility, speed and TCO benefits, have evolved to provide performance andfunctionality characteristics that satisfy the transport requirements of the mobile networks, now and in the future. E-Band radio technology, which can currently offer multi-Gigabit capacities with minimal hardware configuration (1+0), has already established itself as a wirelesstechnology that can already meet the needs of 4G+/5G wireless backhaul and fronthaul applications.
UltraLink™-GX80 is a next-generation, all-outdoor, E-Band (71-76 / 81-86 GHz) radio that is ideally suited for use in demanding transportapplications requiring fiber-like capacity and extended range. It offers both Ethernet and CPRI functionality on the same unit, so that it can beused both in backhaul and fronthaul applications.
Offering ultra-high capacity, low latency and support for all packet synchronization options, it fully satisfies the rigorous backhaul requirementsof 4G+ and future 5G mobile networks.
When operating in CPRI mode, UltraLink™-GX80 can support up to three CPRI traffic streams and provide operators the cost-efficient fronthaultransport needed to build and extend the reach of their C-RAN networks. UltraLink™-GX80’s small size and intelligent design allows it to beeasily and quickly deployed on rooftops or telecommunication towers, taking-up minimal space, and minimizing power consumption perGigabit. Furthermore, “zero-touch” configuration, through an integrated Bluetooth interface, minimizes its rollout time and safeguards againstdeployment errors.
Benefits
- Versatile solution for macro-cell backhaul and C-RAN fronthaul, as well as, all types of transport applications in metro and aggregationnetworks as a fiber substitute.
- Throughput, QoS and packet synchronization capabilities that satisfy the demanding 4G/4G+/5G transport requirements.
- Up to 10 Gbit/s full-duplex capacity, with simple 1+0 configuration and zero footprint, all-outdoor design, minimize deployment TCO.
- Support of native transport of Ethernet or CPRI traffic in the same unit.
- Deployment in complex networking architectures without additional switching equipment.
- Operation in low-licensing cost spectrum
High Radio Capacity with High Spectral Efficiency
UltraLink™-GX80 is offering 10 Gbit/s capacity on a single 1+0 radio link achieved by combining an industry-high spectral efficiency (using256-QAM modulation) with bandwidth acceleration in a 1,500 MHz-wide channel. High spectral efficiency enables the use of narrowerchannels, which incur reduced license fees in countries where fees are applicable. Narrower channels also increase the number ofavailable channel options, which allow for denser link deployments through the reduction of frequency reuse and facilitation of planningfor interference management and mitigation.
High System Gain & Advanced Range-Enhancement Schemes
UltraLink™-GX80 is based on a new generation of RF transceiver technology that provides high transmit power and receiver sensitivity.Offering system gain over 100 dB (without antenna) and over 200 dB with antennas, it pushes the range capability of E-Band radios to newhighs. UltraLink™’s fast 7-level hitless adaptive modulation and coding can provide seamless system gain and capacity trade-off to enablehighest capacity for most of the time and continuous link operation under adverse propagation conditions. Additionally, UltraLink™-GX80can seamlessly be combined with OmniBAS™ OSDR microwave (6 GHz to 42GHz) radios exploiting advanced RLA functionality to increaselink capacity and enhance reach / availability.
Standards-based Service & Link OAM Support
Support of service OAM, based on the IEEE 802.1ag and Y.1731 standards, and Link OAM, based on the IEEE 802.3ah standard, meansthat UltraLink™-GX80 is capable to offer carrier-grade Ethernet OAM features, enabling operators to provide manageable L2 end-to-endservices to their customers.
Comprehensive QoS
UltraLink™-GX80 offers per-service QoS treatment of the transported traffic based on L1, L2 and L3 classifiers. Strict Priority (SP),Weighted Round Robin (WRR), Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ) and Hybrid SP+WRR/WFQ scheduling schemes are cleverly applied to eightCoS / queues to enable the most suitable prioritization treatment for management and control plane traffic, while supporting revenue-generating service differentiation and assured critical service delivery for user plane traffic. Color-aware WRED is applied as means togracefully manage potential queue congestion. Furthermore, policing and shaping are applied to the incoming / outgoing service flows, allowing the definition and conformance of services to the desired characteristics.
Complete Packet-based Network Synchronization Options
Being an advanced packet radio, which is designed for mobile network transport applications, UltraLink™-GX80 supports a fullrange a packet synchronization methods. Its Ethernet interfaces support standards-based Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) frequencysynchronization distribution, as well as, the associated ESMC signalling channel. Furthermore, Precision Timing Protocol (IEEE 1588v2)Transparent Clock and Boundary Clock functionality is supported in hardware for the delivery of frequency and phase synchronizationdeemed necessary in locations where GPS / GLONASS signals are hard to reach (such as sheltered / covered / street-level deployments).
Compact, Flexible Solution, with Innovative Deployment Automations
UltraLink™-GX80 is a small form factor, lightweight, all-outdoor system. As such, it enables zero-footprint, minimum support infrastructuredeployments. Links are easily deployed with its small form-factor ODU (290 mm x 246 mm x 80 mm), which weighs no more than 4.5 kg,thus minimizing the overall cost for the supporting site. Apart from all the usual methods (by Ethernet cable connection), UltraLink™-GX80 also offers deployment expediency by its “zero-touch” configuration and service provisioning feature, which is achieved through anintegrated Bluetooth interface by employing a standard Android tablet.
